CBN050C-grade inserts from Seco-Carboloy (www.secocarboloy.com) have a low CBN-content substrate and a PVD coating for machining in the range of 650 to 825 sfm. They are available in solid, full-face and brazed multicorner and single-tip shapes for hard-finish machining. Cutting edges on round inserts, either solid or full faced, are visually identified, as are those on solid and multicorner versions. The company says the (Ti, Si) N coating on CBN050C cutting tools results in increased tool life, as compared with tools with (Ti, Al) N alloy coatings. The coating's color provides a visual indication of worn edges.
