Joby Aviation Inc. announced January 7 it would establish a new factory in Dayton, Ohio. According to a company statement, the 700,000-square-foot factory is ready for “immediate use.” The aviation startup, which is currently seeking FAA approval of its electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft, said the new facility will support the company’s plans to increase production to four aircraft a month by 2027.

The aviation startup finished expansion of its Marina, California factory in July 2025 and started propeller production at its first Dayton plant in October 2025.

In a company statement, JoeBen Bevirt, CEO and founder of Joby Aviation, said the plant will be critical for ongoing production increases. He also noted Ohio’s long history with aviation and said the company aims to be a part of manufacturing’s return to the Rust Belt state.

“From the world’s first aircraft factory to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton has long been the epicenter of aerospace innovation and we’re proud to be building the next generation of flight right here,” Bevirt said. “The reindustrialization of Ohio has become central to Joby’s story and with unmatched governmental and policy support, we’re ready to make sure that the commercial and defense aircraft that define the future of flight are built right here in America.”

Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio, in a statement, also referenced Ohio’s history in flight and said Joby’s plans could change the face of aviation.

“From the Wright Brothers to Joby Aviation, Ohio has always been where the future of flight takes shape,” Gov. DeWine said. "Joby's expanded manufacturing presence in Vandalia and the Miami Valley brings together our state's rich aviation heritage with our world-class advanced manufacturing workforce to build the aircraft that will redefine how people and goods move through our cities.”
