AM General Reupped for Army Humvees

July 30, 2025
The manufacturer of HMMWV multi-purpose wheeled vehicles has drawn a two-year supply deal that raises the value of the original contract over $3 billion.

The U.S. Dept. of Defense issued $126.5 million to AM General LLC via a contract modification for ongoing supply of M1165A1B3 HMMWV multi-purpose wheeled vehicles, or HMMWVs. These variants of the vehicles are customized for use by special operations forces, offering increased payload capacity, optional armor, and able to be equipped with various weapons systems.

The initial, “indefinite delivery contract” was awarded in May 2024. The new award modification brings the value of the original contract to more than $3.05 billion.

The number of vehicles to be supplied is not specified by DoD. Also undetailed is the vehicles’ unit cost, which is independently estimated to be nearly $300,000.

Work will be carried out by AM General in South Bend, Indiana, and is scheduled to be completed by August 2027.

AM General is a portfolio company that manufactures Humvees and other military vehicles such as M35 and M939 trucks, as well as Hummers for civilian buyers.
