EMUGE-FRANKEN USA announced June 24 the launch of two new chip breaker configurations for its TOP-Cut VAR end mill line. According to a company release, the new chip breakers include unique geometry and coatings designed to increase tool life and chip evacuation.
The variable helix carbide end mills have chamfered cutting edges for increased stability and chip-breaking serrations on the edges. The square end and corner radius versions include 7 flutes, variable pitch helixes, and an aluminum-chromium vapor-deposited coating for durability.
The new square end chip breaker mills are available in diameters from ½” to ¾” and a variety of lengths across a total of 20 SKUs, and the corner radius chip breakers are available in similar diameters and multiple radius options from 0.030” to -0.120” for a total of 34 SKUs. Both types of chip breakers are available in straight and Weldon shank types for different tool-holding options.
According to company leadership, the top-cut VAR tools are suitable for a wide variety of applications.
“Our TOP‑Cut VAR tools are the best choice for manufacturers that need flexibility and performance,” said Dan Kelly, EMUGE‑FRANKEN USA CAM Support Director. “These new chip‑breaker configurations give machinists even more control in demanding applications where chip evacuation and process reliability directly impact productivity.”
