Non-Invasive Thermometers for Specialized Industry

ABB says its new NINVA-brand temperature measurement devices are suitable for use in oil and gas, chemicals, power and marine applications.

ABB announced an expansion of its NINVA-brand non-invasive temperature measurement devices June 10. In a release, the Swiss industrial controls company said the NINVA line of temperature monitors are deigned for use in the oil and gas, chemicals, power and marine industries.

The line now includes three models with specialized applications. NINVA Integrated is designed for use with pipes of inner diameter DN15 through DN2500 and for use in chemicals, oil and gas applications. NINVA Remote is designed for use in high-temperature environments found in power and utilities companies, and can withstand vibrations of up to 2g while transmitting temperature information to ABB’s TTF300-N field-mount transmitter. And the NINVA Compact is designed for use on small pipes (DN15+) and can withstand vibrations of up to 4g.

According to ABB, NINVA thermometers are designed for deployment without the need to cut, weld, or shutdown equipment by clamping to the outside of a pipe and inferring its inner temperature from external readings. ABB said this method of measuring temperature provides similar accuracy to other measurement devices with simpler installation.

In a statement, ABB’s Measurement & Analytics President Jacques Mulbert said the first NINVA thermometers were a coup for industrial operators collecting data without affecting production and noted the demand for industrial data-collecting devices.

“With an ever-growing need for sensing, industrial operators see the value of not having to stop the process or cut into piping to get the insights they need,” Mulbert said.
