New Soft-Termination Chip Capacitor for Powertrain and Safety Equipment
Murata Manufacturing Co. announced the launch of a new soft-termination chip multilayer ceramic capacitor, or MLCC, for automotive powertrains and safety equipment. In a company statement, Murata said the new GCJ21BD72A225KE02 would fill a demand for high-capacitance, high-voltage tolerance, and small-footprint capacitors for 48V power systems that can also withstand mechanical stress, vibrations and thermal cycling.
According to Murata’s research, the new MLCC has a capacitance of 2.2 microfarads at 100 volts DC in a tiny 2x1.25mm package. The Japanese electronics company said similar ratings were previously only available in larger capacitors of at least 3.2x1.6mm size. The small size reduces necessary board mounting area by 51%, Murata said, and its soft termination feature absorbs board flexure stress and post-mount cracking.
The GCJ21BD72A225KE02 meets X7T temperature characteristics, Murata said, and supports an operating range between -55-125 Celsius (-67-257 Fahrenheit).
