Sandvik Coromant released its CoroTurn Plus turning adapter on March 2. In a company statement, the machining solution company said the CoroTurn Plus uses sensors to make cutting forces, vibration, chatter and incut status visible to the operator. Tie-in capabilities to Sandvik’s CoroPlus Connected and CoroPlus Viewer programs enable automatic preventative actions and real-time remote viewing, respectively.

In normal use, the CoroTurn Plus sends visual information and signal feedback to a PC or tablet with CoroPlus Viewer installed, enabling operators to see relevant data and receive audible alerts to review and flag deviations, including identifying tools approaching end-of-life status to enable appropriate removal. CoroPlus Connected, meanwhile, interfaces with a machine’s NC to enable machine-integrated control. Operators can use CoroPlus Connected to set automatic limits on chatter, load, and vibration so the control can automatically interrupt normal operation to prevent accidents.

In a statement, Sandvik Coromant project manager Leland Bailey said the CoroTurn Plus gives machines the information necessary to make informed automatic decisions.

“Sensorized tooling is the most practical bridge into more advanced automation because it turns raw signals into safe, machine-enforced actions,” Bailey said. “By capturing high-resolution cut data and connecting it directly to the control, teams enable unmanned windows, reduce downtime, pinpoint end-of-life and institutionalize best practice, while clear, actionable visuals help operators at every experience level make safe confident decisions.”
