Seco Tools, a Swedish metal cutting tool manufacturer, announced the launch of its BB732 boring bridges in December. The modular devices are intended for use with Steadyline brand bars and are used for precisely drilling deep holes.

The BB732 bridges can be used for roughing and finishing tasks at a variety of widths. The company said the bridges support diameters of 114mm to 301mm for roughing tasks and up to 315mm for finishing tasks. According to Seco, the bridge’s conical design and vibration damping system improves on static and dynamic rigidity compared to solid holders, and its use for both roughing and finishing tasks reduces inventory and setup time.

Cooling the bridge is accomplished with a flow of coolant. In a statement, Kavita Dandge, Global Product Manager of Machine Solutions at Seco, called the BB732’s coolant flow a “standout feature.” The flow, Dandge said, “is directed right at the cutting edge to help break up chips and keep the insert cooler.”

As a safety feature, the bridge features a safety stopper to prevent block ejection due to centrifugal force.
