Sandvik Coromant (www.coromant.sandvik.com/us) has introduced the GC4205 insert grade that provides increased speeds, high metal removal rates and process stability in steel turning applications.

The grade offers an extended performance range, from roughing to medium- and semifinishing and is designed for turning hard materials where high cutting temperatures are generated. The capabilities of GC4205 allow cutting speeds of greater than 800 ft per min, high metal removal rates and extended time in the cut.

The company said the GC4205 produces as much as 30 percent more parts than previous grades when used in applications with high cutting data because of its improved crater wear and plastic deformation resistance.
