New Grade for Milling Hardened Steels

Sandvik Coromant (www.coromant.sandvik.com/us) said its new GC1010 insert grade for milling hardened steel has capabilities ranging from roughing to finishing. The grade, developed in response to growing demand from the die and mold industry, is for roughing to finishing of tool steels, ISO-H hardened steels and ISO-P steels. The new inserts can also be used to boost productivity in the finishing of ISO-K cast irons.

GC1010 has a thin PVD coating combined with a fine-grained hard substrate that provide the toughness and wear resistance necessary to maximize performance in hardened steel, The company said this increases metal removal rates, boosts tool life and provides sustained surface finish and tight tolerances during long cutting cycles. The grade can be combined with multiple cutting products from Sandvik Coromant, including the CoroMill 300 and CoroMill 210 lines.
