Noted for its design curriculums, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in Preston, U.K., is exclusively running VX CAD/CAM software on 15 high-end HP computers in its new CAD-design suite. The software's design modeling with advanced hybrid solid/surface modeling and Class A surfaces provides students training for careers in the product, industrial, ceramic, and 3D-design fields.

According to Graham Hill, senior technician at UCLAN, the software's learning curve is short, so students can focus more attention on learning good design-engineering practices as opposed to spending an inordinate amount of time learning software. "This was an important factor in selecting VX software," he adds.

"VX software is a good fit for UCLAN, and we are pleased it accepted VX as its design tool of choice," comments Ian Mason, director of Informed Data Systems, the UK distributor of VX CAD/CAM packages. And VX Vice President of sales and marketing Bob Fischer says that the software is well-suited to an educational setting because design students are exposed to manufacturing practices while manufacturing students get a feel for the design process. Ultimately, this makes for better products faster and increases student value in the workforce.

Unlike conventional CAD/CAM systems, VX rests on a highperformance VX engine that delivers complex 3D hybrid modeling and interoperability with emerging process-management and engineering tools.
