The Faro Gage Personal CMM and the Platinum FaroArm are designed with 0.0002-in. accuracy, making them an affordable alternative to traditional CMMs and other portable inspection equipment.

Faro Technologies Inc., Lake Mary, Fla., announced the release of The Faro Gage Personal CMM and the Platinum FaroArm with 0.0002-in. accuracy. The systems are designed to be high-precision, affordable alternatives to traditional CMMs, hand tools, and other portable inspection equipment.

Both products have similar features, but the Faro Gage, with its zero-training touchscreen icons, is created specifically to be simple enough for shop-floor personnel.

Setting up in seconds, the Faro Gage has a magnetic mount (a vacuum mount is optional) that lets machinists measure parts and assemblies directly on the machinery producing them. It's also accurate and powerful enough for advanced measurement and statistical analysis like GD&T and SPC. In addition, it automatically records all of the user's measurements and creates comprehensive reports.

The Platinum FaroArm affords the same accuracy, but is also available in 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-ft configurations. The new design is twice as accurate as the Gold model FaroArm, 31% lighter, and includes 8-hr on-board batteries. The portable platform has a universal 3.5-in. mounting ring for easy adaptability, while the base also offers mounting options.

In addition to the different available sizes, what sets the Platinum FaroArm apart from the Gage is its advanced software that enables users to not only inspect but to also reverse engineer or perform CAD-to-part-analysis on parts, fixtures, and assemblies.

The Faro Gage and other of the company's technologies have caught the attention of the U.S. government. The company has been awarded a 5-yr General Services Administration (GSA) contract by the U.S. Federal Government.

Faro's Laser Tracker will be used for large-scale military applications, such as measuring aircraft exteriors for fit and finish, while the new Faro Gage can be used to measure dies and molds for weaponry.
