Skills Training Program Automation for Educators, Manufacturers

The National Institute for Metalworking Skills is prepared to train students and workers, and to manage and document the results with outcomes targeted for employers’ needs.

The NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR METALWORKING SKILLS’ (NIMS) Smart Training Solutions (STS) platform for Career and Technical Education (CTE) and On-the-Job Training (OJT) will be presented at IMTS 2026, in the North building, Level 1 at booth #211710, in the Smartforce Student Summit.

The Smartforce Student Summit is an interactive, educational event held simultaneously with IMTS 2026, for students, educators, and administrators from K-12 to college to engage with advanced manufacturing and STEM technologies like robotics, AR/VR, and automation.

The NIMS’ STS - Smart Training Solutions aids organizations to train with transparency and precisely track progress, both in the lab and on the manufacturing floor. Visitors to the NIMS will be able to view live demonstrations of this progressive platform.

STS for CTE streamlines the certification process and keeps training aligned with industry standards, while tailoring targeted outcomes for local employer needs. STS assists instructors and administrators to:

  • Automatically generate affidavits
  • Track hands-on competence in real time to help stay on pace
  • Customize projects with confidence in alignment with industry standards
  • Provide transparency of standards to instructors, students, and industry throughout the training process
  • Dynamically update projects and instructions to align with industry standards.

STS for OJT optimizes training where it matters most - on the floor. The STS Platform gives organizations the means to capture mission critical know-how, deliver it as optimized training, and track performance. Organizations are empowered with the OJT Intelligence needed to build custom training architectures and manage the process seamlessly within production workflows.

The STS platform is not an LMS: It is an intelligent layer that integrates with an organization’s existing digital tech stack to synchronize corporate training goals with what is happening on the floor. All without using a single PDF or spreadsheet.

“Employers admit they are caught in a cycle of training programs that consume resources but fail to equip personnel with the skills needed to succeed on the floor,” according to NIMS executive director Montez King. “STS for OJT is an inexpensive solution that solves this age-old struggle.”
