High-Volume, Precision Finishing

The HZ-85 system reduces labor costs and production times while removing surface roughness, burrs and scale, consistently generating “mirror-like finishes” for a range of machined metal components.

For achieving high-quality polished part finishes significantly faster than traditional manual methods, MASS FINISHING INC. (MFI) will spotlight its HZ-85 centrifugal barrel finishing machine for precision machining applications at IMTS 2026, in the South building at booth 338009. The HZ-85 system reduces labor costs and production times while removing surface roughness, burrs and scale, consistently generating “mirror-like finishes” on a range of machined metal components.

The HZ-85 uses pressure and friction generated by centrifugal force to deburr quickly, radius edges, and polish part surfaces, producing uniform finishes in an operation that is quieter than vibratory tumblers. This high-energy finishing process achieves isotropic finishes, meaning parts are polished evenly in all directions – a result difficult to achieve with hand finishing or conventional methods.

MFI’s HZ-85 centrifugal barrel finishing machine is suited for higher-volume precision machining operations requiring fast, repeatable surface finishing. The machine features four oversized barrels and delivers intensified centrifugal force to accelerate processes while maintaining uniform finishes across geometries. With increased load capacity and configurable divider systems to minimize part-on-part contact, the HZ-85 supports greater throughput and reduced cycle times for batch processing of precision components.

Centrifugal barrel finishing, aka centrifugal barrel tumbling, operates on the Ferris Wheel” principle, with a one-to-one ratio of barrel rotation to turret rotation. The process involves loading one or all four chambers with a mixture of parts, water, compound and media, typically filled to 50-80% capacity. As the turret rotates, the barrels spin around it in a planetary motion, creating a highly effective sliding force that rapidly refines part surfaces.

Mass Finishing Inc. (MFI) is the industry leader in industrial parts polishing and deburring machines. Made for industrial use, our high-energy tumbling machines can reach upwards of 12 times the force of gravity (12G), which means they can achieve your desired results in a fraction of the time when compared to our competitors. Backed by ISO 9001:2015 and MNSHARP certifications, MFI helps manufacturers improve part quality while reducing processing time and cutting costs.
