SkyWest Picks GE Aerospace for New Engines

July 10, 2025
Dozens of CF34 high-bypass turbofan engines are due to power at least 60 regional aircraft ordered recently by the regional operator as it modernizes its fleet.

GE Aerospace is set to supply SkyWest Inc. with at least 120 CF34 engines to power the 60 new Embraer 175 regional aircraft that the carrier booked recently. GE Aerospace did not indicate the value of its order, which may increase if the carrier exercises options it holds for an additional 50 aircraft.

Independent sources estimate the value of an individual CF34 engine at $14 million, suggesting a total order value of $1.68 billion for GE Aerospace

The first aircraft deliveries will begin in 2027.

Utah-based SkyWest is an aircraft holding company that operates regional service under contract for Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines. It is the world’s largest operator of Embraer regional jets, now at 263 aircraft and with orders in place for 76 more.

In addition, the SkyWest fleet is powered entirely by GE Aerospace engines, including more than 1,200 CF34 engines of different models.

GE’s CF34 is a high-bypass turbofan engine adopted primarily for Embraer and Bombardier regional aircraft, and based on military jet-engine technology.

“This order enables us to advance our long-term fleet strategy and to continue to deliver the premier regional product in the industry," according to SkyWest president and CEO Chip Childs.
