Navistar Tops 10,000 Orders Since Cummins Deal

SCR emissions-control meets EPA standard Most vehicle configurations available soon

Navistar Inc. reported it has logged over 10,000 orders for International® Trucks powered by the Cummins ISX15 engine and Cummins SCR after-treatment system, just eight months after announcing its partnership with engine-builder Cummins Inc. to incorporate that company’s diesel engine emissions-control package on its Class-8 trucks.

Last October, Navistar Truck a long-term supply agreement with Cummins Inc. for both heavy-duty diesel engines and emissions after-treatment technologies. Navistar incorporated the Cummins ISX15 diesels in its International ProStar+, PayStar and 9900 trucks, and it adopted the Cummins Emission Solutions after-treatment system for carbon-emission control on its own heavy-duty big bore engine models.

Cummins “selective catalytic recirculation” (SCR) method for NOx emissions control replaced Navistar’s exhaust gas recirculation (ECR) process, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ruled is not an acceptable emissions control technology.

Navistar began delivery of the International ProStar with the Cummins engines last December. The majority of configuration options for SCR-powered International vehicle models will be available by the end of this month.

"The International ProStar with ISX has a strong reputation within the industry and we are seeing increased interest for this configuration across our key segments," stated Navistar’s Bill Kozek, president, North American Truck and Parts. "We brought Cummins ISX back for a reason – our customers demanded a capable and efficient 15-liter solution within our International ProStar chassis, and this milestone along with the number of repeat orders, is a testament to customer acceptance."

In addition to International's ProStar model, the ISX engine has been available in the International PayStar 5900 Set-Back Axle and the International 9900i since April.

The truck builder said it has orders from numerous Class-8 hire-and-leasing fleets, including Knight, Penske, Ryder and Swift, and it noted that its on-highway Class-8 order during July share reached its highest level in three years.

"Increasing acceptance from our large fleet customers who conduct rigorous analysis prior to purchase is evidence of the value our vehicles deliver," according to Kozek.
