Winners announced at Canadian skills competition

Two students from the British Columbia Institute of Technology won top honors at the Canadian Skills Competition in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Jordan Brooke was the winner in the category of Industrial Maintenance, while Michael Kleywegt won in CNC machining.

Brooke and Keywegt both attend the BCIT School of Manufacturing, Electronics and Industrial Processes.

Brook is currently is a third-year apprentice in the full-time Millwright apprenticeship program, which prepares students to fabricate and maintain heavy machinery. Kleywegt is receiving his diploma of Trades Training in the BCIT CNC Machinist Technician co-op program.

The Canadian Skills Competition is the only only national, Olympic-style, multi-trade and technology competition of its kind in Canada for young students and apprentices in the country. Approximately 500 young people from all regions of Canada compete in over 40 trade and technology areas.
