UK Carrier Lifts A320neo Order to 98

Oct. 20, 2022
With a series of incremental orders, budget airline Jet2.com is now in line for 98 new narrow-body aircraft, an order that could exceed $12 billion..

U.K. regional airline Jet2.com has booked 35 more A320neo aircraft from Airbus, raising its total order for those narrow-body jets to 98. The initial order for 36 A321neo jets was placed in the summer of 2021, and Jet2 has raised the total incrementally in the subsequent months.

Jet2 offers regional service from several U.K. airports to leisure destinations in Spain.

Based on the book value of the A320neo, the total value of the order could be as much as $12.7 billion, though neither Jet2 nor Airbus has commented on the cost or delivery schedule.

The A320neo is Airbus’ mid-range, narrow-body A320neo series, redesigned from an earlier generation with new engine options and wing sharklets, to achieve up to 20 percent savings on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and to reduce engine noise by up to 50 percent versus the earlier A320 variants.

The A321neo aircraft in Jet2.com’s initial order is the “lengthened fuselage variant,” with capacity for 240 passengers, depending on configuration. Jet2.com will have those aircraft configured for 232 seats, while the A320neos will be configured for 180 seats.

Airbus offers two alternatives for powering the twin-engine jet under the New Engine Option (“neo”); Jet2.com’s choice of engines – the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G or CFM International LEAP-1A turbofan engine – has not been announced.
