Allison Transmission Completes Avtec Purchase

April 7, 2022
The Avtec product portfolio and machining operation is seen positioning Allison for strategic growth in the off-highway segment in India and other global markets.

Allison Transmission completed its purchase of the Avtec Ltd. off-highway transmission business from CK Birla Group, a $23-million acquisition announced in Q3 2021. Avtec is one of India’s largest independent manufacturers of powertrain and other products for automotive, off-highway, defense, agriculture and railway manufacturing.

The purchase also includes Avtec’s Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) off-highway component machining assets. When it first announced the purchase Allison said the off-highway business and associated IP would lead to additional opportunities in global markets.

Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission designs and manufactures commercial- and defense-vehicle propulsion systems and calls itself the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions.

“This acquisition will position Allison’s product portfolio for strategic growth in the off-highway segment in India and other global markets that demand purpose-built products that deliver unrivaled performance, durability, reliability and productivity,” according to Todd Bradford, Allison v.p., Strategy, Business and Corporate Development.
