Charter airline Condor is buying seven Airbus A330neo aircraft as part of a fleet-modernization program, with plans to lease nine more of the same models, for long-haul service on routes serving North and South America, Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia.
The full order could be worth over $4 billion, based on the book value of the wide-body aircraft. The twin-engine aircraft will replace Condor’s fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft. Deliveries for the new jets will begin the in fall of 2022, and the carrier’s entire long-haul fleet is scheduled to be fully replaced by mid-2024.
Airbus chief commercial officer and head of international, Christian Scherer said: “The A330neo has won a thorough competition yet again, as it has in the vast majority of competitive evaluations these last three years.
“The decision by Condor to modernize its long-haul fleet with A330neos will also set a new benchmark on the airline’s trajectory towards more sustainable flying.”
The Airbus A330neo is a wide-body aircraft based on an earlier version of the A330, updated with the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and featuring a new wing design, with a wider span and winglets intended, to improve fuel efficiency aerodynamic performance.
Condor is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and operates from other German cities as well, in service to tourist packages. It recently drafted a restructuring program approved by EU regulators worth a reported $619.3 million.
