Triumph Draws Sikorsky Order for CH-53K Systems

Feb. 2, 2021
Low-rate initial production contract to be completed this year for the USMC’s King Stallion heavy-lift helicopter program.

Triumph Group’s Systems & Support unit has a low-rate initial production contract from Sikorsky Aircraft to supply “blade fold” actuation and dampening systems for the CH-53K King Stallion helicopter. The order covers LRIP 1 and LRIP 2 deliverables, as well as spares, for the heavy-lift rotorcraft.

Deliveries will be completed during 2021. The value of the contract was not released.

Triumph Group, a designer, manufacturer, and repairer of aerospace and defense systems, components and structures, will complete the work at operations in Redmond, Wash., and Valencia, Calif.

The Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion is a heavy-lift cargo helicopter developed as a follow-up to the CH-53E Super Stallion, and in production now for service with the U.S. Marine Corps.

The $25-billion CH-53K program is planned to produce 200 helicopters for the USMC. Described as the largest and heaviest helicopter in service for the U.S. military, the King Stallion is designed with three 7,500-shp engines, composite rotor blades, and larger aircraft cabin than previous CH-53 variants. It will carry an external payload of 27,000 lbs. over a 204-km radius.

"LRIP is a critical milestone for any new platform, and we are pleased Sikorsky has chosen Triumph Group to support the innovative CH-53K from development to production and through the entire aircraft life cycle," stated William Kircher, EVP of Triumph Systems and Support.
