New Universal Turning Center
EMCO has released a new universal turning machine, the Universalturn 50. According to the Salzburg-based machine company, the UT50 is the successor of its Maxxturn series, features dynamic drives for accurate machining cycles and can completely machine bars of up to 51mm bore. According to EMCO, the UT50 is suitable for use making hydraulics and pneumatic components, automotive and engine parts, fastening and transport technology and sliding and rolling bearing parts for companies engaged in mechanical engineering, automotive, medical and defense production.
The turning center, according to EMCO, also includes an integrated Y-axis for stable turning, a compact counter-spindle that reduces the need for additional re-clamping, a tool turret with 12 available driven tool positions, a stable cast-iron machine bed for damping vibrations and an absolute measuring systems. The UT50 is operated with Sinumerik One, Siemens’ CNC control system, and in 2026, EMCO will release a version used with FANUC 0i+ controls.
Both M and MY versions of the UT50 come with a 30kW belt drive with large precision ball bearings, a brushless AC drive and a high-resolution encoder mounted on the spindle for proper positioning, while the UT50 SMY uses a 21kW direct drive EMCO says is well-suited for machining aluminum. All versions of the UT50’s main and counter spindles can turn at up to 6,200 rotations per minute, while driven tools can reach either 5,000 or 12,000 rpms.
