Universal Wire EDM for Additive Manufacturing

A patented horizontal electric-discharge machine is designed to work with powder-bed fusion printers to quickly, efficiently separate metal 3DP parts from build plates.

GF MACHINING SOLUTIONS’ patented CUT AM 500 horizontal wire EDM technology was developed specifically for additive-manufactured component separation, for example in production of medical implants and similar parts.

Designed to work seamlessly alongside GF Machining Solutions’ additive manufacturing systems – or with any other OEM powder bed fusion printers – the CUT AM 500 quickly, efficiently, and safely separates additive manufactured metal parts from build plates measuring up to 500 x 500 mm. This precise, affordable and automation-ready machine offers medical manufacturers an alternative to using standard, vertical-configured EDM equipment or other cutoff methods (e.g., band saws) while ensuring geometrical accuracy and assembly readiness.

With the CUT AM 500, manufacturers eliminate those issues surrounding the use of band saws, particularly geometric inaccuracy, loss of workpiece material (kerf), and part damage.

The CUT AM 500 also provides clean, contamination-free, and damage-free cutting, which is critical in medical part production.

GFMS will demonstrate the CUT AM 500 horizontal wire EDM at the MD&M West 2022 event, April 12-14, Anaheim, Calif.
