Dual-Spindle VMC Series for Large Parts

Chiron's FZ/DZ 25 vertical machining centers are designed for machining high-value components, with a combination of productivity, accuracy and flexibility

The FZ/DZ 25 series vertical machining centers introduced recently by Chiron Group were developed for high-productivity machining of large-dimension, complex structural components, for automotive and aerospace applications. According to a Chiron representative, these twin-spindle machines are designed to produce high-value components with a combination of productivity, accuracy and flexibility "unrivalled in this class."

With a spindle distance of 800 millimeters and spindle speeds up to 20,000 rpm, the two-spindle DZ 25 P five-axis VMC is designed for dual-spindle machining of large aluminum structural components, with a work area up to 799 mm diameter per position.

Pallet size under each spindle is 630x630 mm. Up to 60 HSK63 tools can be assigned to each spindle with chip to chip time of 3.5 sec.

Spindles travel independently of each other in the X and Z direction, cooperating smoothly with user-selected automation options. Travels in X, Y, and Z are 800 mm, 1100 mm, and 800 mm.

The highly dynamic machine offers rapid travel speeds of 120/75/75 m/mi., and acceleration of 10/10/15 m/s2.

Operation and loading take place on separate sides of the machine, which is a significant advantage for processing large workpieces. This allows optimal access to the working area and a good view of the process – even if the machining center is supplemented by a pallet changer for workpiece changes during machining.

Automation options (available from Chiron) include a robot, pallet changer, and pallet changer plus robot. The machine also can be loaded directly by a gantry in high-production systems.

The FZ/DZ 25 series VMCs are operated via the Chiron TouchLine control system in conjunction with Siemens or Fanuc controls, with a large panel on which the machine status can be monitored at any time. The series of machines is prepared for the Chiron SmartLine modules RemoteLine, DataLine and ProcessLine – for an additional productivity boost, according to the developer.

Thanks to a compact design the FZ/DZ 25 series requires only a small amount of floor space.
