It is the company's first North American hybrid production. According to Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America (TMMNA), there will be a $10 million investment in the plant to accommodate hybrid production, but no additional hires or new construction is planned. "Once the decision was reached to make a hybrid version of our best-selling vehicle,” says Gary Convis, president of the Georgetown plant and a managing officer of Toyota Motor Corporation, "the Georgetown plant was the natural choice for Toyota's first North American hybrid production." The Georgetown facility currently builds Camrys, Avalons, and Solaras. TMMNA says the Kentucky plant will have the capacity to build approximately 48,000 Camry hybrids per year.
