Advanced Machine & Engineering Co. (www.ame.com) offers 3D CAD models of its workholding fixtures, machine components and safety products on its web site, and provides an example of the effective use of combining 3D modeling with Internet communications.

The company’s site contains models of more than 2,500 individual parts.

To accommodate the diverse software packages that customers and prospective customers use, Advanced Machine & Engineering Co.’s models are available in generic format or in 15 CAD software-specific formats. They can be previewed and downloaded as .stp, .igs, .dxf and .prt files.

Among the downloadable models are the company’s Spieth machine components, Ambush and Amdisk machine components, Amflex workholding components, Amforce hydraulic clamping cartridges, Amrok tombstones, Amlok rod locks and Sitema machine safety products.

Advanced Machine & Engineering Co. added this online service in response to customer demands, and because an increasing number of engineers use the Internet to locate components for their designs.

“We frequently get requests from customers for CAD models,” Tom Watson, director of global marketing for Goellner, Inc. said. Goellner is Advanced Machine & Engineering Co.’s parent company.

“We are excited about bringing this level of service to our customers on our web site. Adding 2D and 3D CAD drawings helps us serve them more effectively by providing what they need to more easily integrate our parts into their machines,” Watson said.

Advanced Machine & Engineering Co. uses a model generation engine powered by Catalog Data Solutions (www.catalogdatasolutions.com), a San Jose, Calif.-based company. Catalog Data’s tools help companies to turn technical information into engineering designs.

Advanced Machine & Engineering Co., located in Rockford, Ill., is a global manufacturer and distributor of precision machine components, fluid power components, fixturing/ workholding, power drawbar and spindle interface components, and saw machines and blades. The company also designs and builds special machines for a variety of industries and provides machine rebuilding, retrofitting and contract manufacturing services.
