Stiff-body toolholders

SchunkInc. has introduced a new line of toolholders
SchunkInc. (www.schunkusa.com)has introduced a new line of toolholders which rely on the Sino-T toolholders that use a series of inner sleeves, rather than hydraulics, to clamp tools. The company says the toolholders, which are actuated by using a C-spanner wrench, provide stable, even clamping pressures that result in high torque transmission, as compared with collet-style holders. Also, their damping characteristics reduce machining noise and increase smooth cutting. Standard versions are balanced to G6.3 at 15,000 rpm.

Intermediate sleeves, which can be used for peripheral coolant and through-coolant tooling, clamp different tool diameters. The toolholders provide axial-length adjustment to ±0.002 in. and have two spindle interfaces: Cat 40 and Hsk-A63. Both spindle interfaces come in metric and inch versions along with a range of intermediate sleeves. Runout accuracy is five microns.
