3M chief takes over at Boeing

The Boeing Co. has hired 3M's chairman and CEO as the company's next president, CEO, and chairman of the board.

The Boeing Co., Chicago, has hired 3M's chairman, CEO, and a Boeing director as the company's next president, CEO, and chairman of the board. W. James McNerney Jr. takes over a post held by interim President and CEO James A. Bell since March, when the board of directors forced out Harry Stonecipher. McNerney has been head of 3M since 2001. He also was president and CEO of GE Aircraft Engines, vice president of GE Capital, which provides airplane leasing and financing services, and held top executive positions with other General Electric businesses.
