UGS was the largest supplier of computer-aided manufacturing software in 2005, and is likely to continue to lead the market in 2006, according to a market study released by CIMdata Inc.
UGS (www.ugs.com) held a 14.6 percent share of the CAM market based with revenues of $123 million from CAM related software and services.
“UGS has been the largest CAM supplier on the basis of revenue received for the past three years and they are projected to maintain that position in 2006,” Alan Christman, chairman of CIMdata, and the primary author of the market study.
Christman said the overall strength UGS’s of Unigraphics NX CAM software, and its market presence, industry reputation in CAM, integration from design through manufacturing combine to provide great breadth and depth of product offerings and a wide knowledge of the industries it serves, are expected to keep UGS in the market leading position for several years.
Based on revenues associated with CAM software, products and services, the CIMdata report identifies IBM/Dassault as the second-place provider in the market, with a 12.9 percent share, followed by PTC with 7.5 percent, Hitachi/Zozen with 6.5 percent and DelCam with 5.2 percent.
If the ranking was changed to focus on end user payments, including revenues received by resellers, IBM/Dassault is the largest CAM vendor with an estimated $189 million in CAM related software revenues and a 14.1% market share. In this ranking, IBM/Dassault is followed by UGS, PTC, Delcam, Hitachi Zosen Systems, Planit Holdings, CNC Software, Missler Software, Tebis, and OPEN MIND Technologies.
