Kennametal Chairman/President/CEO Markos Tambakeras officially presents Gord Brock, the winner of the "Need for Speed in Milling" contest, with the keys to a 1934 Ford coupe streetrod.

Entering Kennametal's "Need for Speed in Milling" sweepstakes at this year's IMTS paid off for Gord Brock. The plant manager at Roctel Linamar of Guelph, Ont., won the contest grand prize — a 1934 Ford coupe streetrod.

Brock and five other regional finalists were randomly drawn from over 20,000 entries. During the giveaway at Kennametal headquarters in Latrobe, Pa., the six each selected a starter key, but only one actually started the car. Brock was the second contestant to try his key.

Besides Brock, the finalists included Rich Veit of Northop Grumman, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Scott Mick of New Venture Gear, Muncie, Ind.; George Foster of Goulds Pumps, Seneca Falls, N.Y.; Beau Stephens of Smith & Nephew, Memphis; and Bruce Herring of Metaldyne, Greenville, N.C. Each received a consolation-prize package.

According to Kennametal, it chose a streetrod to emphasize its ongoing commitment to accelerate milling customers' productivity and profitability through an array of product solutions and services. The car, valued at almost $40,000, is taxi-cab yellow and packs a 350-in. 3 , 350-hp Chevy engine with a 4-barrel Edelbrock 650 CSM carb. It's chopped and has suicide doors with keyless entry. Other goodies include a stainless steel exhaust, American Torque Thruster mag wheels, tilt steering, power windows, and sunken gages.
