MACHINE TOOL CONSUMPTION order value ($ million) and change from previous month's performance

AMT The Association for Manufacturing Technology and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) reported "strong" investment in machine tools despite reports of an economic slowdown. March U.S. machine tool consumption was $300.59 million, a 25.7% increase from February. The figures were also 6.6% higher than those reported for that month in 2004. For the year, 2005 is up 19.4% compared with 2004 with a total of $737.24 million.

"Despite some unsettling economic news in the last few weeks," says AMTDA President Ralph J. Nappi, "Increased productivity and capacity requirements continue to push U.S. manufacturers toward investing for global competitiveness."

  • West - $31.53 million/-0.9%
  • Central - $57.96 million/+31.2%
  • South - $59.18 million/+79.9%
  • Midwest - $110.88 million/+21.5%
  • Northeast - $41.03 million/+5%
