The clamping geometries and builtin-stops of Kaiser Tool Co.'s MiniGroove 'N Turn toolholders are designed to prevent slippage and rotation during axial or radial cuts when grooving, turning or profiling.

Kaiser Tool (www.thinbit.com) says its toolholders, which are compatible with conventional, Swiss and CNC machines, start with bores of 0.325 in. and are available in 0.250 in., 0.375 in., 0.500 in., 0.625 in. and 0.750 in. sizes. The toolholders are available in steel, heavy metal and carbide with straight or 90-degree insert presentations. Toolholders in 0.250 in. and 0.375 in are for right or left-hand orientations; 0.500 in., 0.625 in. and 0.750 in. are universal.

They are fitted with MiniGroove 'N Turn inserts that allow for internal grooving, face grooving, profiling or boring with the same insert. All are made on the same standard blank, which, the company says, allows for greater toolholder and insert compatibility among applications while reducing toolholder inventory.

The inserts allow for external and internal grooving and turning up to a shoulder with groove widths of and with either harp corners or corner radius. Standard O.D./I.D. grooving inserts are ground with extra side clearance to allow for finish turning and profiling. Face grooving can be done on major diameters from 0.300 in. with a groove range of 0.004 in. to 0.150 in., in increments of 0.001 in. They are available in submicron grain carbide grades of DM-2 for steel and interrupted cutting, and DM-5 for aluminum and other nonferrous alloys. Corner radius, full radius and TiN, TiCN, TiAIN and diamond coatings are available for standard items without requiring them to be ordered as a special.
