Iscar Metals Inc. (www.iscarmetals.com) has introduced several new cutting tools including single-edged reamers, single-ended parting inserts, side plungers and a deep-drilling system.

The Index H-Ream line of indexable single-edged reamers is a high-speed reaming system designed to ream holes from 8 mm to 32 mm (0.315 in. to 1.260 in.) in diameter. The tools have internal coolant holes. Their indexable inserts have two cutting corners with four lead-angle options and three rake-angle variations that cover most material types. The inserts also feature carbide pads that Iscar says provide a combination of economical and high precision results on a wide range of materials.

These reamers can be used for blind, through and cross holes, and for keyways. Reamer bodies for through holes include coolant-hole outlets that are located behind the inserts to direct chips forward. This helps prevent scratching hole surfaces. In addition, extra holes are located behind the insert pads to convey lubricant and to reduce friction between the pads and the hole's surface. For blind-hole applications, the coolant outlets are located at the front of the tools, directing the coolant and chips to flow backward out of the hole.

The company says this new line of reamers is suitable for high-precision applications and for maintaining tight tolerances on hole diameters. The company says the high surface quality produced by Index H-Ream tools can eliminate the need for subsequent internal grinding or finishing operations.

Iscar's new single-ended parting inserts feature the company's Tang-Grip clamping method that allows for rigid clamping in a tangentially oriented pocket. Iscar says the clamping method increases pocket life by as much as three times more than a traditional self-grip mechanism. Tang-Grip inserts are available with the familiar J and C-type chip-formers and with neutral and angular frontal cutting edges. Blades and inserts are available in 0.79 in., 0.118 in. and 0.157 in. (20.1 mm, 2.30 mm and 3.94 mm) widths in IC928 and the newer IC908 grades.

Tangplunge side plungers are designed to machine long overhangs with minimal bending forces. In addition to plunging, the company says these tools can be used for general face milling with up to a 0.118-in. (3.00-mm) depth-of-cut.

Iscar says it designed its new deep-drilling tool for applications in which the drilling depth-to-diameter ratio is more than 10. These tools are available for single tube (STS) and double tube (DTS) systems. The available diameter range is 0.315 in. to 10 in. (8.00 mm to 254 mm), and the maximum depth ratio is 300 times diameter.
