Sp3 Diamond Technologies Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., (www.sp3inc.com)is making its Diatip freestanding diamond tool tips and tipping services available globally. Diatips feature pure diamond cutting surfaces and do not have binders that the company says can contribute to chemical interaction with coolants or workpiece materials. They are available as insert tips and carbide-backed cartridge tips or as custom tips brazed to customer-supplied carbide inserts and cartridges.
Sp3 claims Diatip inserts achieve performance levels 100 percent to 200 percent greater than polycrystalline diamond (PCD) at a price typically 30 percent higher.
