Master Negotiations in 7 Steps

Life is about compromises, according to the old cliché, but if you are prepared to compromise, to negotiate, you can accomplish more with the choices available to you — and achieve the goals you set for yourself. In life, and needless to say, in business, being a better negotiator will make you more prepared to succeed. Expert negotiator Eldonna Lewis-Fernandez, author of "Think Like a Negotiator" shared the following tips that anyone can use become a better negotiator in their personal and professional lives.

"While even the word ‘negotiation’ can evoke fear, stress and anxiety for many, the intent is quite simple: to discuss and ultimately agree on a deal," she said. "Whether it’s a multimillion dollar contract or just deciding where to meet for lunch, life is rife with negotiations. And, the negotiation process is a lot like a chess game where strategy reigns supreme—one thoughtfully considered move at a time. Make a careless, short-sighted, ill-conceived move and suffer the perilous consequences."
