An integrated, five-axis VMC for complex parts – without multiple operations or set-ups in the past – for affordable productivity and finished-part quality.

DN SOLUTIONS AMERICA (formerly Doosan Machine Tools) introduced a smaller version of its DVF series vertical five-axis machining centers, the DVF 4000. DVF series machines are compact installations that are fully packaged to manage five-sided or simultaneous five-axis processes.

“The DVF 4000 is the perfect model for shops that want an integrated five-axis solution for virtually any part that has required multiple operations or set-ups in the past,” according to v.p.-Marketing and Sales Andy McNamara, Vice President of Marketing and Sales. “It allows them to step up in terms of productivity and quality without spending half a million dollars on a CNC machine tool.”

The DVF 4000 is designed with a 15,000-r/min direct-coupled spindle as a standard, powered by a 24.8-hp (18.5-kW) motor that generates 87.1 ft-lbs (118 Nm) of torque.

A FANUC 31i-B5 Plus control makes possible full five-axis simultaneous control, so the machine has complete contouring capabilities.

It features a 400-mm diameter, built-in rotary table with a zero-backlash roller gear cam design, for superior rigidity and speed. The rotary table is designed for ease of use and work efficiency, minimizing interference as parts are machined. An eight- or twelve-pallet Auto Work Changer (AWC) adds to the DVF 4000’s productivity by delivering pallets for unattended machining.

Each DVF Series machine is equipped with a 40-tool, servo-driven automatic tool changer, for more flexibility in tool selections for parts of different profiles. Sixty- and 120-tool magazines are available, too.

The oil-cooled spindle controls heat to minimize thermal issues. A Z-axis thermal compensation feature collects real-time data from six sensors throughout the machine, to automatically calculate compensation.

The DVF Series also incorporates roller LM guideways for speed and added rigidity. The machines are equipped with linear scales on the X, Y, and Z axes, and rotary scales on the B and C axes, for accurate positioning and repeatability.

“If you are using a three-axis vertical (machine) with a retrofitted rotary table to avoid multiple operations or set-ups, the DVF 4000 provides a cost-effective, purpose-built alternative that was carefully designed from the ground up for maximum productivity,” according to McNamara. “Their compact footprint also enables installation in smaller shops where floor space is limited or comes at a premium.”
