New Double-Column Machining Center

Nov. 4, 2021
Okuma America’s MCR-BV is capable of five-axis contouring as well as five-sided heavy milling – offering high accuracy for large-part machining.

OKUMA AMERICA is debuting a new double-column machining center – the MCR-BV – the seventh machine offered in the company’s DCMC series.

Designed as a machine for five-face machining applications, the MCR-BV is also capable of five-axis contouring as well as five-sided heavy milling applications. These heavy-duty applications are possible through features such as a powerful integral motor and spindle, an expanded work envelope, and a very rigid table which is 30% thicker than previous models, all of which is ideal for large-part machining.

The MCR-BV has table dimensions from 2,000 X 4,000 mm to 3,000 X 12,000 mm (78.74 X 157.48 in. to 118.11 X 472.44 in.)

The standard spindle is capable of speeds up to 6,000 min⁻¹, though a 10,000 min⁻¹ option also is available. The spindle’s motor power is rated at 43 kW (57 hp.) Traverse rates are: 30 m/min. (98.43 fpm) in the X axis;  32 m/min. (104.99 fpm) in Y; and 15 m/min. (49.22 fpm) in Z.

The new machine is available with magazine capacities of 50, 80, 100, 120 or 180 tools.

A range of attachment heads are compatible with the MCR-BV, allowing for a wide range of unique part shapes to be created, as well as many multitasking machining functions to be performed.

Additional machine features include a fast automatic tool changer (ATC) and a small, fast auto attachment-changer (AAC), both of which allow this DCMC to increase productivity while performing heavy cutting or high-accuracy finishing.
