The new VB 5AX100-L Schenke 5.1 low-profile 5-axis clamping system from Kurt Manufacturing (www.kurtworkholding.com) has a clamping height above the machine table of 100 mm (3.937 in.) and delivers a maximum clamping force of 8,992 lb (40 kN).
This clamping system provides extra part clearance for applications that require continuous 5-axis cutting motion of complex pockets, sculptured and contoured surfaces, and intricate 3-D features.

The unit is adjustable to handle any desired clamping width limited only by the size of the machine table. The system’s two clamping jaws, one stationary and one moveable, can be positioned at any desired distance from each other within the working envelope of the machining center.
The primary advantage of the 5-axis clamping system is that it eliminates jaw deflection and/or part misalignment during machining operations.
By locating the tension spindle directly under the workpiece, the jaws do not flare out under tension and the machine table does not distort. The system handles blank workpieces, machined workpieces, round and irregularly shaped workpieces with repeatable accuracy.
Specifications include a clamping width from 0.0787 in. to 9.291 in. (2 mm to 236 mm) that can be extended with optional spindle screws, a clamping depth of 0.315 in. (8 mm) and height above the machine table of 3.937 in. (100 mm). The system is designed to mount easily on standard T-slot tables, location grid machine tables or custom fixtures.
