New DC drive package for new installations and retrofits

Siemens’ compact DC Master main drives are rated from 15A–850A continuous current, and reportedly offer more power per panel in the same, compact footprint as the developer’s previous two generations of base drives.

Siemens Industry Inc. is offering a new Sinamics DC Master (DCM) base drive as a result of increasing demand for base drive panels using the Sinamics DC Master converter. These drives are rated from 15A–850A continuous current, and the developer said they offer more power per panel in the same footprint as the prior two generations of base drives.

The rated direct current can be increased by connecting the DC converters in parallel.

The Sinamics DC Master technology integrates open-loop control, closed-loop control and power unit in a single device, so it is an especially compact device well suited to heavy machine applications.

Standard features of the new Sinamics DCM Base Drive include input fuses, output DC fuses (regen only), control transformer, AC line contactors, PROFIBUS, BOP20, UL508A Certification and 65KA SCCR rating.

DC technology is frequently adopted for industrial main drives because it provides reliable control of functions like speed and torque, and also allows wide-ranging speed control, and high rotational accuracy. Siemens’ Sinamics drives have a converter for DC applications, which means that other functions and expansions of the Sinamics product line are available, too.

The new pre-wired unit is offered complete and fully tested with all necessary components mounted onto a back panel. The developer indicated the Sinamics DC Master base drives are a flexible, cost-effective solution for new installations and retrofits where space is limited. This is expected to be particularly effective for end-users and third-parties like system integrators, and Siemens solution partners.
