Delmia Corp., Auburn Hills Mich., reports Lockheed Martin is using its V5 DPM Assembly and V5 Human digital-manufacturing software to simulate a moving assembly line at the company's mile-long Fort Worth, Tex. facility. The facility is slated for production of a new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. Traditionally, companies build aircraft with large monument tools bolted to the floor. By simulating a moving line, Lockheed found that tools and electric and pneumatic power would have to travel with the airplane. The company says simulation helped identify potential pitfalls in this new process before production, saving time and cutting costs. See lockheedmartin.com for more information.
