Automated Machining Helps Lift Wheel Capacity 42% |
Accuride Corp. credits a novel automated machining installation, among several strategic moves, for expanding its aluminum truck wheel production capacity over the past year. The Mega-Line at Erie, Pa., plant started up last November, and involves eight robots that handle forged and heat-treated wheels as they are turned, pre-stressed, milled, coined, and surface finished for the commercial vehicle market. New Toolpath Strategy in Delcam 2012 |
A “dedicated strategy” for high-speed machining is reported to be the most important new capability in Delcam Plc’s PowerMill 2012 release, due to be demonstrated in the coming weeks by the CAD/CAM system developer. PowerMill is Delcam's primary CAM software for machining, specifically for three-, four-, and five-axis milling. It is a stand-alone CAM system that produces NC toolpaths from CAD models and can recieve data from any CAD system, via IGES, VDA, STL or a variety of direct interfaces. Read the full story here |

Machine Tool Orders Fell in November |
U.S. manufacturers and machine shops ordered $430.17 million worth of machine tools and related products in November, a result that fell 6.9% below the October tally of $463.32 million and marked the second consecutive month of declining totals. However, the November 2011 figure also represented a 26.6% increase over the $339.68 million in orders recorded for November 2011; and the 11-month total for 2011 improved to $4,956.51 million, a 73.9% increase over the January-November 2010 total.
