Idea Works A Tight Wire
When measuring threads with thread wires, the wires are often difficult to hold while trying to take a measurement with a micrometer. In this situation, two strips of rubber can help.
What you do is to poke the wires through the two rubber strips at a distance that is a little less than the pitch/part diameter. Doing this puts tension on the wires when they are slipped over the part to be measured and prevents them from falling. It also keeps them from getting lost between measurements. Soft neoprene or silicone rubber at least 0.125-in. thick works best.
