This 395-mm-long drill may only be usable up to 350-mm long, but that is no reason to trash it.
My idea saved having to purchase hundreds of new drills for cylinder blocks. Instead of new drills, I used discarded tooling from another job.
For one style of cylinder blocks, I drill 8.8-mm-diameter oil holes using 395-mm-long drills, which did not work beyond 350 mm because the holding element interfered with the guide element. Instead of trashing these drills, I got engineering approval to use them for drilling 9-mm-diameter, 350-mm-deep oil holes in another style cylinder block.
