I needed to do some precise depth drilling on a lathe, but the machine's tailstock handle had no dial for indicating feedout increments. To remedy the problem, I attached a magnetic base to the machine's drill chuck and a dial indicator to the top of the tailstock housing (as shown). The dial indicator showed exactly how far the drill fed out.
