AMB manufactures pressure vessel over seven inches thick

Amalgamated Metal Builders (M) Sdn Bhd recently manufactured high pressure vessel at 200 millimeters thick, which equates to a wall roughly 7.87 inches thick. The vessel, made for Malaysia Refining Company, is called a Recycle Gas Compressor Knock-out Drum. It is made from solid carbon steel and weighs over 99 tons.

According to AMB managing director Datuk Md Sharif Shamsuddin, the vessel is made from solid carbon steel.
“The design and manufacture of the vessel was done 100 percent locally and took 32 weeks to complete from the order date," said AMB managing director Datuk Md Sharif Shamsuddin.

AMB produces large-scale pieces for the oil and gas industry, including thick-wall vessels, heat exchanger, process skids, storage tanks, structural steel and piping works. It also provides maintenance services to its clients. The company has 270 local staff, including 30 engineers.
