Flowserve Earns New Valve Orders from Chinas Nuclear Sector

Components work as part of emergency shutdown procedure

Dallas-based Flowserve Corp. is reporting a new multi-million dollar order for component parts for the Chinese energy industry: China Nuclear Power Engineering Co. has booked an order for main steam isolation valves (MSIVs) and main feedwater isolation valves (MFIVs) and feedwater motor-operated valves.

The order was booked near the end of 2009. The specific value was not reported.

Flowserve MSIVs and MFIVs are designed for emergency nuclear power plant shutdown systems, preventing the blowdown of the steam generators and maintaining their capability to remove heat from the reactor primary loop and the reactor core.

The valves will be installed at Taishan Units 1 and 2, two pressurized water reactors of the Chinese EPR (CEPR) design now under construction in Guangdong Province, and scheduled to come online in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

The two reactors will be the first units to be built in China based on Areva’s EPR technology.

Earlier this year, Flowserve reported a $15-million contract to supply a series of ASME Section III safety-related globe and gate valves and Flowserve Limitorque actuators to China’s State Nuclear Power Engineering Company Ltd. (SNPEC), for two new nuclear power plants in Zhejiang and Shandong provinces.

Chinese authorities plan to increase nuclear generating capacity to 40 GWe by the end of this year, according to the World Nuclear Association.
