| Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne has taken a major step toward powering the nation’s next-generation space launch vehicle with the completion of the J-2X engine Critical Design Review (CDR). Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company. Starting in 2014, the J-2X rocket engine will power the Ares I rocket into space, helping deliver the Orion crew exploration vehicle, its crew of astronauts and small payloads to the International Space Station. | CFM International's advanced CFM56-7B27A/3 engine model has been jointly certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency for the U.S. Navy's P-8A Poseidon, paving the way for flight tests in 2009 and initial operational capability in 2013. The Navy plans to purchase 108 P-8As to replace its fleet of P-3C aircraft. Read More |
