OMAX will demonstrate two abrasive waterjet systems at EMO 2011

The The MAXIEM 1515 integrates OMAX technologies in a cost-efficient package. MAXIEM is a series of water-table cutting systems built in the United States that integrates proven technologies to provide an affordable, productive fabricating option.

OMAX Corp. plans to demonstrate several of its abrasive waterjet systems at EMO Hannover 2011 in September, including two systems it said are equipped to reduce manufacturers’ time and cost obligations.

One of the systems to be shown will be the OMAX 60120 JetMachining® center equipped with OMAX’s EnduroMAX pump and Tilt-A-Jet® system. It is the smallest bridge-style waterjet machine OMAX offers, but it has a table size of 3,656×1,956 mm (144×77 in.) that accommodates larger stock easily. It is outfitted with Intelli-TRAX® high-precision traction drive technology and has an X-Y cutting travel of 3,200×1,575 mm (126×62 in.)

OMAX indicated the EnduroMAX pump will double the operating life of the 60120 and sped up part processing, lower operating costs, and simplify maintenance. It is said to maximize machine uptime with a 1,000-hour operating range between required pump that rebuilds when run at 3,800 bar (55,000 psi), and its mean time between required rebuilds reportedly is double that of previous pump technology. Still, the new pump runs continuously at 4,100 bar (60,000 psi.)

OMAX’s Tilt-A-Jet system on the 60120 automatically calculates and offsets the machine’s cutting head to compensate for the natural taper that results from the abrasive jet stream. The result is virtually zero taper at cut edges, according to the machine builder.

Also presented at EMO 2011 will be the MAXIEM® 1515 JetCutting center with a 30-kW (40-hp) pump and the A-Jet multi-axis accessory. This machine, with a high-pressure direct drive 3,450-bar (50,000-psi) 30-kw (40-hp) pump, features X-Y travels measuring 1,575×1,575 mm (62×62 in.) Its table size is 2,337×1,752 mm (92×69 in.), which supports maximum material loads of 1,221 kg/sq m (250 lbs/sq ft.)

The MAXIEM 1515 integrates OMAX technologies in a cost-efficient package. Paired with the A-Jet accessory that cuts beveled edges and angles with an articulated jet, the MAXIEM 1515 cuts various angles within one tool path. Operators determine cutting parameters in the machine’s easy-to-use controller software, or angles can be determined in part programs.

The articulated jet accurately positions within ±6 arc minutes (±0.09°), and the additional two motion axes it provides allow for tilting the machine’s nozzle over a range of 0° to 60° from the vertical position. Additionally, the A-Jet easily cuts countersunk holes and parts with complex geometries, and its fixed focal point design means the XYZ axes do not need to be moved as the head tilts.
