Designed for low-volume production, the DeskLine ECM machine, manufactured by Extrude Hone Corp. (www.extrudehone.com), applies a low voltage DC electrical current to the tooling and workpiece while flowing an electrolyte between both surfaces to dissolve unwanted metal. The machine has a 63-in. by 32-in. (1600mm x 800mm) footprint and a capacity rated at 3 kW (100 A/30 V). According to the company, typical DeskLine cycle times range from 10 seconds to 30 seconds which, when considered with projected annual costs and labor for manual deburring operations, the machine boosts productivity levels by up to 10 times with reduced expense.
