L3Harris Technologies announced June 24 it had broken ground on two new factories in Camden, Arkansas to increase production of PAC-3 rocket propulsion systems. The newest buildings are part of L3Harris’ push to build roughly 60 new factories in Alabama, Arkansas and Virginia to meet increased demand for munitions by the Department of Defense.

The company produces the PAC-3 MSE Interceptor missile’s two-pulse solid rocket motors and altitude controls. According to L3Harris, the two new factories will include a 75,000-square-foot cast, cure and final assembly building and a 70,000-square-foot case preparation factory. Together, the plants will include automated X-ray inspection systems for detecting defects, fully automated casting and expanded curing capacity.

In a statement, L3Harris CEO Christopher Kubasik said the new facilities are “self-funded” to ensure speed of setup. “This expansion boosts our ability to deliver PAC-3 propulsion faster and at greater quantities, while strengthening military readiness and providing proven capability our warfighters depend on,” he said.
